13 Best-Dressed Celebrities at the 2025 Met Gala: Glamour, Tailoring & Iconic Moments

The 2025 Met Gala’s official theme was “Tailored for You,” tied to the Costume Institute’s Superfine: Tailoring Black Style exhibition, celebrating Black dandyism and menswear. As Vogue explains, the exhibit “will take the Black dandy as its subject, examining the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities”. In anticipation of the gala, fashion experts noted that guests would interpret the theme with abundant tailoring and storytelling on the red carpet. Below, we highlight 13 stars whose custom looks — from bold suits to ornate gowns — exemplified the theme and made them stand out on the Met’s famed carpet.
Rihanna
Rihanna closed the Met Gala procession in a striking Marc Jacobs ensemble that balanced structured tailoring with classic glamour. She wore a grey bustier paired with a black floor-length skirt and a cropped black jacket, all designed by Jacobs, with matching heels, necktie and a wide-brimmed hat (milliner Stephen Jones) completing the look.

The outfit was notable for elegantly showcasing her baby bump, making the pregnant pop star the centre of attention on the carpet. The sharp jacket and tie nodded to the “tailored” theme, while the voluminous skirt and polished accessories gave the ensemble a dramatic, refined edge.
Diana Ross
For her first Met Gala in over 20 years, Diana Ross made a show-stopping entrance in a custom Ugo Mozie gown with an 18-foot train embroidered with the names of her children and grandchildren. The 81-year-old icon’s black-and-white outfit featured a strapless bodice and that monumental train — six assistants were needed to carry the embroidered fabric down the carpet.

The personalised train paid homage to her family legacy, and Vogue’s livestream host even remarked that Diana “shut the whole carpet down” with the dramatic reveal. In terms of fit, the gown echoed the theme’s tailoring motif with its sleek, column-like silhouette, while the maximalist train gave it an unforgettable, couture-level flourish.
Colman Domingo
As one of the 2025 co-chairs, Colman Domingo embraced maximal tailoring in a two-part Valentino ensemble. He first appeared in a bright cobalt-blue pleated cape (with an embellished collar) that paid tribute to late Vogue editor André Leon Talley — evoking Talley’s famous 2011 kaftan. Midway down the carpet, he dramatically removed the cape to reveal a second look: an impeccably tailored grey Valentino suit beneath, complete with a polka-dot necktie, matching polka-dot lapel flower and a windowpane-plaid jacket.

Domingo said his inspiration included Shakespeare’s Othello, royal colours and even the story of a formerly enslaved man who wore his finest blue suit, tying the bold colour choice to Black history. This layered approach to the “tailored” theme — combining a regal cape and a classic suit — made Domingo’s outfit one of the night’s most ingenious tributes to the Met’s dandy motif.
Teyana Taylor
Teyana Taylor’s outfit was a collaboration with Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter (of Black Panther fame) and featured rich symbolism. She wore a custom pinstripe suit in classic black-and-white, complemented by an extravagant padded cape embroidered with the words “Harlem rose” along its train.

Taylor topped off the look with a statement wide-brim hat and a matching cane, giving her the air of a stylish grand marshal on the red carpet. The embroidered phrase paid tribute to Harlem’s cultural legacy, linking her look to Black history and the theme. By blending sharp tailoring (the fitted pinstripe suit) with theatrical flair (the cape and hat), Taylor’s ensemble both honoured tradition and added glamorous showmanship to the night.
Jodie Turner-Smith
British actress Jodie Turner-Smith embraced the “tailored” theme through historical inspiration. She wore a custom burgundy leather suit by Burberry, styled to evoke Belle Époque equestrian fashion. A matching top hat completed the outfit. According to Burberry, Turner-Smith’s look pays homage to a 1891 Paul Nadar photograph of Selina Lazeiski, a Black equestrian of that era.

The deep win colour and riding-inspired silhouette blended masculine tailoring with romantic heritage. By referencing a Black figure from fashion history and reimagining a classic riding habit in luxurious leather, Turner-Smith’s ensemble delivered a poignant and trendsetting interpretation of the gala’s theme.
Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi Goldberg put a playful twist on the theme in all white. She arrived in a vintage-inspired Thom Browne two-piece: a floor-length tailored dress in duchess satin with raglan sleeves, layered under a dramatic overcoat covered in 350,000 matte white sequins. She completed the outfit with a wool bouclé top hat (a nod to Browne’s Fall 2015 archives). The monochrome look turned heads with its mix of textures — the matte white coat’s sequins catching the light against the smooth satin dress underneath.

It nodded to Black dandyism by riffing on classic white-tie attire (top hat and coat), but Whoopi’s oversized proportions and sparkle made it entirely her own. In short, her opulent white suit struck a balance between reverence for tailoring and exuberant individuality.
Doechii
Rising rapper Doechii made her Met Gala debut in a youthful take on the tailored look. She wore a checkered Bermuda-short suit by Louis Vuitton, co-designed with brand ambassador (and co-chair) Pharrell Williams. The outfit featured a cropped LV monogram blazer over a crisp white button-up shirt, paired with matching maroon bow tie, calf-length socks and Mary Jane flats.

By pairing traditionally feminine elements (the bow, Mary Janes) with menswear touches (tailored shorts and blazer), Doechii’s ensemble played with gender and genre. Pharrell’s influence ensured the look was bold yet refined: as a statement of “modern tailoring,” it merged streetwise cool (check pattern and shorts) with classic suit details.
Zendaya
Zendaya paid homage to Diana Ross by walking the carpet immediately after,r — and brought her take on tailored glamour. She wore a custom three-piece Louis Vuitton suit designed by Pharrell Williams, in a deep navy hue. The crisp ensemble included a matching tie and an oversized, wide-brimmed hat. A signature touch was a sparkling Bulgari brooch pinned at the back collar of her jacket, catching the light every time she turned.

Zendaya’s look impressed with its sleek proportions and high-fashion polish: the sharp lines of her jacket and fitted trousers echoed the gala’s theme of tailoring, while the hat and jewellery added Old Hollywood flair. With her red nails and visible engagement ring peeking out (courtesy of fiancé Tom Holland), Zendaya balanced edginess and elegance in a way that stood out on the carpet.
A$AP Rocky
Co-chair A$AP Rocky delivered a luxurious version of the Black dandy ideal. He wore a custom look from his AWGE creative agency: a long black jacket with large lapels paired with black wool trousers, a black vest and crisp white shirt. In hand, he carried a gem-studded black umbrella as a bold accessory. He completed the look with a slim black necktie and custom black Oxford shoes (a collaboration between AWGE and Christian Louboutin).

Rocky also accessorised with silver Bulgari jewellery — including a statement brooch, earrings and necklace. The result was a dramatically tailored outfit that married street-cool and old-world elegance. By styling the suit with lavish accessories and a sleek silhouette, he embodied the “Superfine” theme’s blend of modern flair and classic Black tailoring.
Demi Moore
Demi Moore interpreted the theme in an avant-garde way with her sculptural gown. She wore a custom Thom Browne gown shaped like an oversized men’s necktie, in black-and-white. The entire dress was covered in intricate beading — Vogue reports it had over 1.4 million beads (including 22,000 black sequins, 103,500 black cut beads and over 1,093,500 black bugle beads) and required 7,600 hours of handwork to create. Demi paired the gown with playful black-and-white pom-pom heels.

The look was striking: it turned a dandy motif into a gown, merging menswear iconography (a tie) with sumptuous craftsmanship. This tongue-in-cheek approach to tailoring made Demi’s outfit both a literal interpretation of the theme and a dazzling piece of fashion theatre.
Tyson Beckford
Supermodel Tyson Beckford looked every bit the modern dandy in a custom Ralph Lauren Purple Label tuxedo. His ensemble featured a double-breasted cream dinner jacket with pointed lapels, matched to a tuxedo shirt and cream trousers. He completed the look with a bow tie and velvet slippers in the same shade.

The choice of designer had personal significance: Ralph Lauren had launched Tyson’s career in the 1990s, making this a full-circle fashion moment. Beckford himself described the outfit as “a dandy meets James Bond” in style, calling it “very elegant, very clean, very Ralph.” Indeed, the ensemble was sharply tailored and impeccably polished — a quintessential example of Old Hollywood tailoring reimagined on a Black style icon.
Doja Cat
Doja Cat’s look was an edgy and animalistic take on suiting. She wore a pinstripe bodysuit by Marc Jacobs, featuring a structured corseted top and fitted pants. The focal point was the intarsia design on the bodice: a repeating ocelot pattern (the wild cat print) in shades of black and brown. Doja told Vogue that she felt certain prints were especially close to her, and personalising the suit was key to the theme.

Her quote — “Personalising your suit is a really big, key point to the theme” — underscored how the look merged concept with heritage. By combining a powerful animal motif with sharp tailoring, Doja’s outfit captured attention. The look’s sleek silhouette and bold patterning made it both fierce and refined, a standout nod to the gala’s emphasis on Black-inspired suiting.
Cardi B
Hip-hop star Cardi B brought maximalist flair to menswear with her emerald ensemble. She arrived in a custom ivy-green Burberry suit designed by Daniel Lee. The textured coat and matching trousers were a deep green hue, coordinating with Cardi’s green contact lenses and eyeshadow. Underneath the coat, she wore a silk devoré shirt with ruffled accents at the neckline and cuffs, and the coat featured a revealing back cutout that showcased her floral back tattoo.

Daniel Lee told Vogue they approached the look as a “tailored, feminine dandy,” noting that “Cardi gives main character energy”. Indeed, the bold colour and ornate details (from ruffles to cutouts) gave the tailored suit a theatrical quality. Cardi’s outfit stood out for its lush fabric and maximal attitude — a confident, modern twist on the Black dandy concept that aligned perfectly with the gala’s theme.
